This week we begin with a Professional Development Day for teachers and school is closed for the day. Most teachers in the school will be attending a workshop on BoySmarts on Monday, May 10.

On Tuesday, May 11th we have our students participating in First Nations Day and classes will rotate through activities throughout the day.

Wednesday, May 12th we have our first Track Meet morning. This will run from 9:00 to 12:00.

Thursday, May 13th is a regular classroom day and students will be busy making up for lost classroom time due to other events within the school.

On Friday, May 14th we once again have our last Track and Field morning. It will again run from 9:00 to 12:00.

Although the week looks busy due to multiple events, students need to be reminded to be on their best behaviour and ready for both events around the school and classroom work.

Also this week please welcome Ms. McTavish into our classroom to work with the students both as a class and in small groups.

We continue with a busy week including our Teacher Candidates from TRU.  We are in the midst of working on a novel study in Language Arts and a unit on Geometry in Math.

The Teacher Candidates will be wrapping up their week on Thursday.  They have worked hard and the students have enjoyed their time with them.  Good luck with your next practicum.

Students will be attending a Care Assembly on Friday at 8:45 am .  All parents are welcome to attend.

Also this Friday students will participate in a community Pitch In.  This gives students the opportunity to pick up/clean up garbage around the school and their community.  This will happen throughout the afternoon.

I hope everyone has a great week.

Yesterday the school was closed and I enjoyed a workshop about Math. At this workshop I learned many new ideas and am very excited about being able to share some of these new ideas with the class. On the other hand, I hope everyone enjoyed their three day weekend and are ready to get back to business.

This week are the Talent Show auditions in my classroom. If you have signed up to audition please see the schedule for your day and good luck.

My Teacher Candidates have started their two week practicum today and they are both very excited and nervous to be here. Please help Ms. Labrie and Ms. Bozek feel at home in our classroom and in the school. Welcome to the both of you!

This week is going to be very busy and intense, however I know that each one of my students is up for the challenge.

Of course. last but not least, I would like to congratulate Maneet Kular as the class winner of the Rotary Speech Contest. Fantastic job Maneet! Maneet will be giving her speech at an evening dinner for the Rotary International on April 19, 2010. Don’t forget to wish her luck.

I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Easter weekend. Welcome back to term 3 and the last 3 months of school before summer vacation.

This week students will be wrapping up a few units in a number of subject areas as our Teacher Candidates begin their practicum this Friday, April 9th, 2010. During the time that these teachers are in the classroom I am also here to ensure that students still receive all the information and help that they would normally have during class time. It will be a great experience for students as the Teacher Candidates have many new ideas that they would like to try and have tried to make all lessons very exciting.

Also, it is my hope that we will get to clay before the end of this week so we have time for the projects to dry, to be fired and to be painted. We’ll just have to see how time goes with the wrap up of many units.

Another exciting upcoming event in our school is the Talent Show. This week permission forms go home to those who want to take part. Expect to see these by Wednesday. Please encourage your child to practise. Talent Show auditions will happen next week.

The last bit of information I would like to share is a reminder to everyone that next Monday, April 12th is a Pro-D day and school is not in session.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

This week is going to go by fast and furiously as we will be very busy with a number of events happening in our school.

On Wednesday, March 31st we will host our annual Multi-Cultural Day.  Parents/Students are encouraged to bring food for our potluck luncheon.  We ask that all food items arrive as soon as possible on the morning of the luncheon but not later than 11:00  am.  On your items please include your name, teacher’s name and how we are suppose to heat it up.  If you are bringing your food ready to eat please do so by 12:00 pm.  Students will each lunch at 12:00 pm and then go outside to play.  Our afternoon of dancing will proceed at 1:00 and finish at the end of the school day  –  2:30 pm.

Thursday morning, April 1st we will be having an assembly for intermediate class awards.  If your child is receiving an award they have been informed and should invite parents.  Please ask your child if they are receiving an award.  Also, March reading journal entries are due today for marking.

As well, on Thursday, April 1st, it is an early closure day.  All students will be finished school at 12:30 pm.  If you wish to see me for an interview please call the school to set a time.  If I require an interview I have checked off the box on the outside of the report card envelope and would appreciate a call so we can set up a time for an interview.

Just a reminder that all report card envelopes need to be returned to me as I use them in term 3.

Sorry for the late post!

I wanted to remind everyone of a few events happening for the grade 7 students in my class this week.  On Wednesday, March 24th we are heading over to the Ukrainian Hall to create our very own Ukrainian Easter eggs using their very special process.  Once the eggs have been completed I will head over to pick them up at the end of the week.  Expect to see the students’ beautiful art work brought home at the beginning of next week.

As well, on Friday, March 26th the class will spend the afternoon at the Canada Games Pool.  It is important that all students participate in this field trip.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at the school.  All permission slips need to be returned by this Thursday, March 25th whether students are planning on swimming or not.

Just to let you know that last week the results from the FSA were sent home with each student.  If you have not yet received those results please ask your child where they have put them.

We are once again looking at a very busy few weeks as report cards go home next week and our Multi-Cultural Day is on Wednesday, March 31st. We would love to have many ethnic dishes to share in our pod.  As well, there is no school the afternoon of April 1st due to Parent Teacher interviews.  Please see the report card envelope to see if I require you to see me for an interview, but also feel free to make an appointment if you wish to see me.

The last reminder to students is that their Reading Journal entries for March are due at 8:30 am on April 1st (not an April Fool’s joke).

Welcome back!!!  I hope that everyone had a restful and relaxing Spring Break.  As we work towards the end of the school year it promises to be a busy and eventful term 3.  There will be many opportunities in all areas for both hard work and fun.

This week is eventful and quite busy as we continue with our term 3 work.  Wednesday is St. Patrick’s Day and with it comes a band visit from the band teacher from Brock.   Hopefully on Thursday students will be able to work on a clay project and as Friday arrives so will the teachers from Brock to help students with their course selection for next year.  Course selection will be somewhat different from previous years and therefore questions about the process cannot be answered until after the visit on Friday.

In the month of April we are fortunate to have the opportunity to welcome two Teacher Candidates from TRU into our classroom for a two week time period.  I will send out more information as the time draws closer to their arrival.  At that time if you have any questions or concerns about their visit please feel free to contact me via e-mail or phoning the school.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday.

This week promises to be a very busy week for the grade sevens.  We start the week with our last class for the Respectful Relationships program.  It has been both exciting and emotionally exhausting for many students.  I am very proud of what the grade sevens have discussed and dealt with as a group as well as allowing them the chance to  learn about the problem solving process around emotions.

On Tuesday the grade sevens have been given the opportunity to visit and cheer on the participants of the Masters Track and Field at the Tournament Capital.  It will allow students to see that keeping in shape is a lifelong process.

To end off the week the grade sevens will spend their Friday morning skating at MacArthur Park Arena and the afternoon demonstrating their leadership skills as they lead the entire school through a Fun Afternoon.  I am hopeful that the weather will be warm for our afternoon.

As students are dismissed on Friday, March 5th at 2:30 p.m. I would like to remind parents and students that we are entering spring break.  School will be closed for a week and will reopen once again on Monday, March 15th, 2010.  I wish everyone a restful and relaxing break.

Prizes to be won!!!! This week the leadership group will be hosting a ‘Guessing the Weight’ Contest. This contest revolves around our penny drive for Haiti.
